Why Documentary Photography Is Important
A lot of people want posed photos because its been hammered into our brains for many years. A lot of people I’ve spoken to, said they don’t think they would get good photos without posing. I’m here to tell you that’s FALSE.
I’m constantly getting messages from clients who are blown away because they didn’t think you could get photos like that by just “being themselves”.
Documentary work is for the people that are looking for photos that tell their story. It’s for people who want photos for the future. It’s so easy to get caught up in the social media world and chase the likes.
You don’t need to be living an extravagant life to get great candid photos. I believe that photo of you laughing with your kids IS extravagant. That photo of you cooking breakfast for your family IS important. Those are the moments we often overlook. Those are the moments I’m trying to capture.
I like photos that have a soul to them. Photos that have grit. The ones that show the messy countertop or the kids toys sprawled over the floor.
Lastly, documentary photography looks much better when printed and hung on the walls. It closer resembles a piece of fine art. Next time, I urge you to consider a documentary photographer for your wedding or family session.
